MERIDIAN —
Some of the details that surround the shooting death of Roderickus Bourdeaux at a Meridian nightclub have slowly come to light with the arrest of two people by Meridian Police Department authorities.
According to Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the MPD's Criminal Investigation Division, 19-year-old Charles Sheffield and 32-year-old Cedric Sheffield, both of Meridian, are facing charges in connection with the shooting incident. Harper said Charles Sheffield has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault while Cedric Sheffield has been charged with accessory after the fact to aggravated assault. Each man was placed on $250,000 bond for their two offenses.
The men are charged in connection with the shooting incident that occurred early on the morning of Dec. 26 at Fusions/VIP nightclub, which is located in a vacant building at 1908 B St.
Harper said at about 12:10 a.m., MPD units were called to the location to a report of a shooting. When they arrived they found several people who had been hit by bullets but Bourdeaux was not there. Police learned minutes later Bourdeaux had been transported by private vehicle to a Meridian hospital emergency room where he was pronounced dead.
Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler said Bourdeaux was shot multiple times in the chest. Harper said three other people suffered gunshot wounds during the shooting incident that began in the parking lot of the nightclub and continued down the street. One man was shot in the leg, another man was shot in the hand and a woman was hit in the torso. All three sought medical attention at Meridian hospitals.
Harper said the two men who were injured are thought to have been hit by gunfire from Charles Sheffield. Harper said the handgun detectives believe was used by Sheffield has been recovered.
Harper said he couldn't go into details as to Sheffield's role in the shooting, and that the investigation into the murder of Bourdeaux and the injury to the female victim is ongoing.
