MERIDIAN —
The Company of Angels will stage the play, "The Boys in Autumn" by Bernard Sabath on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 8 pm. at the Temple Theatre in downtown Meridian.
The play offers a unique look at “what if “ Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn were to meet again after not seeing each other for 50 years. Tom, who now goes by the name of Thomas Gray and Huck who is now known as Henry Finnegan, try to reestablish a relationship that mysteriously broke up when both were teenagers.
As the play progresses, we learn what has occurred in those lost years and how this past reunites an old friendship and broken dreams. This Broadway play, which starred George C. Scott, recalls some of the well-known characters and tales of Mark Twain’s great novels and offers glimpses of Tom and Huck’s recollections of their lives together.
The play is full of humor and sadness and will leave the audience both laughing and crying.
Tom is played by Earl Aycock, who has appeared in numerous productions at the Meridian Little Theatre including "Bye Bye Birdie," "Deathtrap," "I Hate Hamlet," and "A Tuna Christmas."
Steve Nabors, who teaches theatre at Meridian Community College, portrays Huck. Nabors, from the state of Washington, has been a professional actor for more than 30 years. He is a member of both The Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists). He has done numerous roles on the stage and in movies while living in Los Angeles. He recently completed shooting of the new James Franco film, "As I Lay Dying" based on the William Faulkner novel.
"The Boys in Autumn" is directed by Ronnie Miller, who is a retired theatre teacher at Meridian Community College. He has directed more than 100 shows at MCC and for the Company of Angels.
“I really like this show. It has all the elements of a great piece of theatre,” says Miller. “These are two talented guys I am working with; I think people will really enjoy the show.”
Elliott Street serves as set designer and technical director, and Barry Stoltz is in charge of sound effects.
