MERIDIAN —
Authorities with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday afternoon they will likely arrest today the person of interest in Monday's shooting incident in Lauderdale.
LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said until that arrest is made authorities will withhold the name of the suspect, said to be a 74-year old woman.
"She is in a Meridian hospital receiving treatment for a condition unrelated to the shooting," said Calhoun.
Calhoun said the body of Lee Ann Temple, 30, who died as a result of gunshot wounds, has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy. The second shooting victim, the grandson of the suspect, whose name is being withheld by authorities, was transported to Jackson Monday night for surgery. His condition is unknown but authorities said his injuries are non-life threatening.
At about 5:15 p.m. Monday, deputies were alerted to a possible shooting at a residence in the Lauderdale community on Northeast Cove Road. Sheriff Billy Sollie said this road is a dead end with a cluster of mobile homes. He said it was at one of these trailers the shooting erupted.
Sollie said a weapon thought to have been used in the incident has been recovered by investigators. He would not say what type or caliber of weapon it was.
Sollie said deputies were called to the residence and while they were en-route were told the shooting victims had already been transported to a Meridian hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. When deputies arrived at the location they found the suspect inside the home.
