(9 a.m.) 7th street reopens

The block of 7th Street directly in front of Temporary City Hall has been reopened. The section of the downtown street between 24th and 25th avenues had been closed since August 3 while construction crews dug up the street

to install cables and conduit. The on-street customer parking spaces that had been unavailable during the closure are now available for use. The parking lot on the east side of Temporary City Hall will also continue to be available for customers and others doing business with the city.

The conduit was laid as part of a project to provide heating, air conditioning and other mechanical services to the original City Hall, now undergoing restoration, and the proposed new Police Department, which will be constructed where Temporary City Hall now sits. One mechanical building will service both buildings; therefore, lines had to be laid across the street.
