Movie to feature Meridian

Filming will begin Saturday

MERIDIAN —     A film crew and dozens of actors will descend on Meridian early Saturday morning to shoot the first major scene of a movie that will feature the city.

    Filming will begin at 2 a.m. at Meridian City Hall and surrounding areas and is expected to be completed by daybreak.

    The movie, "Midnight Cry," is the first movie production by The Evangel Temple in Meridian, which has garnered a following for its dramatic plays, such as "Life of Christ," "The Judgement," "The Great Tribulation" and"Deceived."

    "The movie really goes into much more about the persecution Christians will face during the end of times and the coming of the Antichrist," said The Evangel Temple Pastor Mike Boles, who wrote the script for "Midnight Cry" and will serve as the movie's director. "This is not like any movie about the end times I have watched."

    In the opening scene to be shot in the predawn hours Saturday, about 50 people dressed in SWAT-type clothes will descend on Meridian City Hall.

    "The scene is about the takeover of government, which will be happening all over the world," Boles said. "We will be filming what is happening in small towns like Meridian."

    Future scenes to be filmed in Meridian will depict the Antichrist's soldiers as they move from house to house confiscating guns and Bibles, Boles said.

    The movie will feature actors and extras from not only The Evangel Temple, but from other churches, with some coming from local congregations and others from as far away as Birmingham, Ala.

    Church members from other congregations will also provide technical support needed to shoot a major movie.

    "We have some guys coming in from Nashville this weekend to help us out," Boles said.

    The filming is being done with help from the city of Meridian. Police officers will assist in shutting downtown roads for the early-morning shoot.

    There is no cost to the city, however, Boles said, adding that the production team is bringing in their own generators to run the lights and other equipment.

    “We are tremendously grateful for the support we’ve received from local officials with our plans for movie production in and around the city,” Boles said.

    A release date for the movie has not been set.
