Four incidents throughout the weekend kept officers and detectives with the Meridian Police Department busy.
MPD Chief James Reed said Monday afternoon that no arrests have been made in any of the cases, which included the attempted kidnapping of two young girls, a shooting and an armed robbery.
"We are still working hard to solve these crimes," Reed said.
Police do not believe the two kidnapping attempts are related.
The latest incident was reported Sunday when police responded to a possible attempt to kidnap an 11-year-old girl.
According to reports, MPD units were called Sunday to the 1600 block of 26th Avenue to an attempted kidnapping that reportedly occurred at about 6:30 p.m. The girl told police she was approached by a white male who she thinks tried to kidnap her. The child was behind a building and was able to run away from the suspect.
Authorities described the suspect as a white male with tattoos on both arms who was wearing a green shirt and black and gray pants.
The suspect is thought to be driving either a gray Jeep styled SUV or a gray and black Ford Explorer.
At about 12:57 a.m. Saturday, a 14-year-old girl told officers she was standing near the street in the 1500 block of 22nd Avenue Heights when the a white man approached her. She told police the man grabbed her but she was able to fight him off and run away. The man then got into what a passing motorist said was a black Ford pickup and drove away.
The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The man was described as tall and skinny, in his mid 20s with semi-curly brown hair, a goatee and blue eyes. He may have had a tattoo of a cross on his left arm. He was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans with a hole in one knee.
The vehicle was described as an older model black Ford truck with an American Flag sticker and an eagle sticker on the back window. Witnesses stated it also had three "X's" somewhere on the vehicle.
"We don't believe at this point these incidents are related," Reed said Monday afternoon of the attempted kidnappings. "There are differences in the two suspects."
Later Saturday morning Meridian Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of Highway 19 North on a call of an armed robbery.
A 79-year-old woman told police she was approached by a young black male armed with a handgun in the parking lot of a convenience store at about 9:30 a.m. The woman told police the man robbed her of her purse before running away on foot.
The man was described as a black male, 15-20 years of age, short in stature with a dark complexion.
The victim received minor injuries when she fell that didn’t require emergency treatment.
Late Saturday morning MPD patrol units responded to the 5200 block of Fifth Street to a report of a shooting. When units arrived at about at 11 a.m., they found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper leg. The teenager told officers someone in a small white car fired several shots at him with a handgun as the car passed by.
The wounded teenager was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
