MERIDIAN —
Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says several residents have contacted the department after they have come home and found someone has burglarized the residence. Calhoun says investigators are currently hashing out clues and following up on additional information about these cases.
"In each case the home was unoccupied at the time with the residents off on a trip or vacation," Calhoun says. "It seems the front door was kicked in to gain entry into the homes."
Volunteer fire department personnel from Bailey, Suqualena, Martin and Collinsville, were told Monday morning to be on the lookout for a white Mercury Grand Marquis, made in the 1990s, possibly with Ohio license plates. The vehicle is said to be occupied by four black males thought to have been involved in several of these burglaries in the area.
"Several citizens said they saw this type vehicle in the early morning hours Monday when these burglaries are thought to have occurred," says Calhoun. "We are actively searching for this vehicle and the people who may have been in it between the times of 2 a.m. and 7 am."
Calhoun says computers, other electronics, small appliances, and even a golf cart were reportedly stolen — although the golf cart has been recovered.
"It was found a little ways down the road in a ditch," says Calhoun. "It looks as if they tried to push it down the road with the car."
Calhoun says nighttime is an odd time for burglaries. He says the majority of burglaries occur during the daylight hours when residents are at work and the children are away in school.
Calhoun says the public can help to apprehend these suspects by calling the LCSD or Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860 with their information. Do not approach this vehicle. Instead, report its location to authorities.

The Drought Is Over
All Mason Irby was hoping for was to find a way on base.
The Southeast Lauderdale sophomore did that and so much more. Irby's single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie, lifting the Tigers to a 6-3 MHSAA Class 3A state championship win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday, and handing Southeast (32-7) its first title since 1966. -
