MERIDIAN —
The 43rd Annual Church of the Mediator Barbecue will be held Saturday.
A freezer bake sale with homemade casseroles will be available for purchase from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. During that same time Boston butts also will be available.
Leta Palmiter, chairman of the event, said butts can be pre-ordered, but extras will be available that morning, "first come, first served."
Local artists will have items for sale at the church from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. And pork plates will be available with a choice of chicken or pork from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"The meat will be provided by Squealers," Palmiter said. "But the Mediator has gone back to making our own beans and cole slaw."
The barbecue tradition at the Mediator puts money back into local charities in the community.
"We have donated between $11,000 and $15,000 each of the last 15 years to charities such as LOVE's Kitchen, Care Lodge, Souls without Soles, art programs at local schools, and Special Olympics," Palmiter said. "It's a great event, and everyone should come out and get a plate, a butt, or a great handcrafted item from our vendors."
For more information about the barbecue, call Palmiter at (601) 917-9521, or the Mediator office at (601) 483-3959.
