MERIDIAN —
Law enforcement authorities arrested a man on a warrant for rape early Thursday morning.
According to Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department Maj. Casey McElhenney, Telly S. Mosley, 37, of 7723 Lauderdale Toomsuba Road in Lauderdale, has been charged in the crime that was initially reported on January 16, 2010. Lauderdale County Adult Detention Center records show Mosley was placed on $50,000 bond.
McElhenney said Mosley was arrested without incident early Thursday morning. Records show Mosley was taken into custody at about 1 a.m. at 2015 Mosby Road.
McElhenney said the incident reportedly took place when the female victim accepted a ride from Mosley. But once inside Mosley's vehicle, the victim told investigators he turned on her with a weapon, possibly a knife, and raped her. She was then allowed to leave.
Lab results from the alleged incident came back identifying Mosley as the primary suspect. McElhenney said a database of past offenders came back with a "hit" in this case allowing investigators to focus in on Mosley.
"We have had a difficult time locating him but we were confident we would find him in the long run," said McElhenney.
The warrant for Mosley's arrest was issued on May 31 of this year, soon after the test results from the Mississippi State Crime Lab were received by investigators.
