MERIDIAN —
Clarkdale Middle School student Ashley McLeod has been named the Mississippi winner of this year’s Doodle 4 Google art competition.
The work of 10 Mississippians chosen as finalists is now on view at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson in an exhibition in the grand hall.
The daughter of Scott and Renee McLeod was selected from more than 114,000 students who submitted entries in this year's competition.
Doodle 4 Google encourages students in the United States to use their artistic talents to "think big" and redesign Google's homepage logo for millions to see. This year, students were asked to center their creation around the theme "If I could travel in time, I'd visit ..."
Ashley's doodle, "Fourscore and Seven Google Searches Ago" was inspired by President Abraham Lincoln.
"He was a great leader who I'd want to meet and even try to save from being killed," the 12-year-old said in a previous interview. "If he did such good for our country, who knows what he could've done to make life today better?"
All 50 state winners also will have their doodle displayed in a special exhibit at the New York Public Library.
