MERIDIAN —
An armed robbery incident in Meridian Monday night resulted in the quick arrest of the suspect thanks in large part to the assistance of a citizen, officials said.
Mike Vick, public information officer for the Meridian Police Department, said the citizen observed the suspect at about 7:30 p.m. after the alleged robbery and alerted law enforcement.
The suspect, later identified as Gregory L. Moore, 48, of 260 Moore Road in Stonewall, was seen fleeing from the Murphy Gas location at the Bonita Lakes Wal-Mart location after the incident.
Vick said Moore allegedly robbed the clerk at the gas station of an undetermined amount of cash and then fled on foot. Vick said the citizen followed Moore while talking with operators at Central Dispatch, who sent police units to the area.
Vick said that the weapon allegedly used was an "edged weapon," but did not elaborate.
"The patrol and detectives were able to take Moore into custody after a short scuffle outside a hotel on North Frontage Road," said Vick. "The money he took from the clerk has been recovered along with the weapon we believe he used in the incident."
Vick said two other people thought to be with Moore were detained for a short period of time but were released after detectives determined they didn't have anything to do with the incident.
