MERIDIAN —
A Meridian man is recovering in a local hospital after being shot Tuesday night during an armed robbery.
Meridian Police Department Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said Wednesday the victim was shot in the back after being beaten and robbed by two men. Harper said the victim is an area merchant and has a business in the Acme Plaza on North Frontage Road in Meridian. Harper did not release which business the victim owned.
Harper said at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, the victim was leaving his business and before he got to his car he was approached by the two suspects who were described as black men wearing dark clothing. Harper said the victim was attacked by the two suspects who beat him and took an undisclosed amount of money. Then as the victim lay on the ground, one of the suspects shot him in the back. The suspects then fled on foot but their direction of travel is not clearly known.
In a separate incident, Harper said Sherita S. Hardy, 32, of Meridian, was arrested Tuesday by police authorities and charged with identity fraud. Hardy's bond was set at $5,000.
If you have information about the armed robbery/shooting incident Tuesday night you are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860. Your information could lead to the arrest of the suspects and a cash reward.
