MERIDIAN —
The body of a missing Meridian man has been positively identified by family members, according to Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter.
Alex Sims, 28, of Meridian was reported missing to Meridian police earlier this week. Sims was last seen at his home on 64th Avenue on Saturday, July 15.
Carter said Sims' body was found in Catalpa Creek near the rural community of Tibbee by fishermen around 11:30 a.m. on July 18.
Family members identified Sims on Friday afternoon, Carter said. An autopsy has been conducted, but Carter said Friday results were not yet in.
There was no vehicle found near the creek, Carter said.
Officer Mike Vick of the Meridian Police Department said they are cooperating with Clay County authorities.
"Our detective division contacted Clay County Sheriff's Office when we heard they had a body," Vick said. "We'll be working with them as closely as we can."
