MERIDIAN —
Two armed robberies and several drive-by shootings kept Meridian Police busy throughout the night Monday and early Tuesday morning.
The first incident was an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store located on 19 North. According to Lt. Dean L. Harper, chief of detectives, Criminal Investigations Division, the store's clerk was approached by two young black males who attempted to rob him as he was locking up.
"The clerk brandished his own firearm and the two suspects fled," Harper said.
About an hour later, police responded to another armed robbery at a hotel located on Highway 11/80 East. An employee leaving work was approached and robbed by a black male.
"He robbed her of her purse at gunpoint, then fled the scene," Harper said.
Later in the evening, three drive-by incidents occurred – two within one minute of the other.
"At around 10:30 p.m., police responded to a "shots fired" call on the 3700 block of 40th Street," Harper said. "Within a minute, police responded to a second shots fired call on the 2200 block of 33rd Avenue."
Police responded to a third shots fired call on the 2000 block of 15th Avenue at about midnight.
"Multiple shots were fired into all three houses – a large caliber weapon was used," Harper said.
No one was hit or injured in either of the drive-by shooting incidents, he said.
Meridian police continue to pursue leads to all incidents.
