MERIDIAN — Quadruple preliminary winner Kristen Sims received the coveted title of 2011 Clarke County Junior Miss during the recent competition in the Quitman High School auditorium.
Five contestants competed in poise, talent, fitness and the essay contest "Be Your Best Self" for scholarships, prizes and the Junior Miss title. Kristen will go on to compete at the state competition, which will be held in July in Meridian.
In addition to winning the title, Kristen also won the Spirit of Junior Miss, Overall Scholastic, Overall Poise and Overall Talent awards. For her talent presentation, she sang “Orange Colored Sky." Kristen was also a winner in the Pajama Contest for Best PJs.
Kristen attends Enterprise High School and plans to pursue a career in nursing t the University of Southern Mississippi. She is the daughter of Dudley and Jane Sims.
Annedrea McMillan won first alternate, "Be Your Best Self" Essay and Overall Fitness. Her talent was singing “I Enjoy Being A Girl.” She was also the Party Theme winner in the Pajama Party contest.
Annedrea, who attends Enterprise High School, plans to attend Mississippi State University to major in biological science. She is the daughter of Arthur and Alisia McMillan.
Second alternate was Michelle Gibson, who played the clarinet for her talent presentation. Michelle, who attends Quitman High School, plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a career in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Leo and Mary Philon.
Also participating in the competition were Quitman High School students Candace Lafferty and Samantha Lafferty.
Candace plans to attend Meridian Community College to pursue a career in nursing. She is the daughter of Michael and Kay Williams. Samantha plans to study journalism or photography and enlist in the United States Air Force. She is the daughter of Carla Smith and Andy Lafferty.
Escort Jeremy Fuller was chosen by the contestants to receive the “Spirit of Junior Mister” Award for his fun loving attitude and encouragement.
Entertainment was provided by Virginia Smith, 2010 Clarke County Junior Miss, who played piano and sang “God Bless America.” She also did a presentation of photos of her experience as Junior Miss.
