Friendship Garden Club

MERIDIAN —     Discussion about a recent field trip was a highlight of the November meeting of the Friendship Garden Club.

In October, members visited Truck Crops Experiment Station in Crystal Springs, where they saw many new and unusual plants sold.

The Nov. 13, 2012. meeting was held at the home of Nell Goodman. Club president Kay Smith welcomed members and led them in the collect. The roll was called and each member answered by stating what they were most thankful for.

Edna Earle Tedder conducted a devotional using I Samuel 1 27:28 as her scripture. Her presentation was titled "Motherhood is a Partnership with God" and included the story of two praying mothers.

Wesley Gustalson said his mother never went to bed until he was home. He would hear her softly praying, “Oh God, save my boy.” Another mother, Susanna Wesley, spent one hour each day praying for her 17 children. Two of her sons are credited with introducing revival to England.

The most beneficial thing a mother can do is pray for her child, Tedder said. Never give up. Hold God to His word.

During the brief business session, the treasurer’s report was presented by Hilda Roberts. Roberts also read a thank-you card from The Care Lodge for a recent gift from the club.

Kay Smith reported on the completion of the club’s service project for December: a decorated Christmas tree at Merrehope. After the business session, members were invited to share in prepared luncheon. The home was decorated with the beauty only nature can provide in the autumn. Arrangements of berries, colorful fall leaves, cones and plants were displayed artfully throughout the home.

Nell Goodman and Cheryl Shannon were co-hostesses.
