MERIDIAN —
Kay Smith was installed as president of the Friendship Garden Club during an installation program at the September meeting.
Serving with Smith are: Norma Jean Williams, vice president; Ruth Carr, secretary; Hilda Roberts, treasurer; Lana Booker, reporter; Nell Goodman, parliamentarian and historian.
New officers were installed by Lana Booker, who presented a program with the theme, “You’re a Jewel.” A gold vase decorated with gold ribbons set on a mirrored gold tray was the focal point. The vase had many pieces of vintage and new jewelry pinned on it, as well as surrounding it. Booker noted that it was a picture of sparkling beauty.
For her scripture, Booker referenced Proverbs 20:15: "There is gold and a multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel." and Malachi 3:17: "And they shall be mine saith the Lord of hosts in that day when I make up my jewels."
Booker asked, “What is a jewel?”
"One definition says that a jewel is a person or a thing that is very precious. Mankind is God’s beautiful creation, His beautiful jewel. We should let our light shine for Christ like a bright jewel so God will be glorified," she said.
As each nominated officer came forward, they were read the duties of their office, and pinned with a jeweled pin when they affirmed that they would fulfill the duties of their office.
At the end of the program, a jeweled pin was placed on Virginia McRae in recognition of her many years of service to the club.
The Sept. 11, 2012, meeting was held at the home of Delores Reynolds of the Whynot Community.
After Smith welcomed members and led them in The Collect, a devotional was presented by Hilda Roberts. Roberts told of the anguish a family faced as their family member was dying.They prayed for a miracle. Their prayers were answered, but not just how they wanted it to be. A family was brought together and they learned God never makes a mistake, she said.
Expressions of love and condolences were expressed to Norma Jean Williams, who recently lost her son, Charles.
The first order of business was to distribute the new yearbooks made by Michelle Murphy as a gift to the club.
After the installation program, members enjoyed a time of fellowship. Delores Reynolds and Hilda Roberts were co-hostesses. Guest hostess was Rebecca Hankins.
