MERIDIAN — " All aboard! All aboard! Pack your bags and get ready to travel."
A program on exciting places to travel in 2010 was presented by Donna Savell of Meridian Coach and Travel at the Feb. 15, 2010, meeting of the Collinsville Community Club.
Places the agency's representatives will travel include: would be traveling to were: Fairhope, Ala.; Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon; Daniel O Donnell-Nashville, Tenn.; Mackinac Island and Chicago; Quartet Louisville, Ky.; Canton Day; Samaritan’s Purse; Memphis Singing Christmas Tree and Nashville Christmas 2010.
The meeting was called to order by President Jack Cook. Billy Nabors led the “Pledge of Allegiance”.
Faye Houston presented a devotional about the tongue. She read from Psalm 39. Houston explained that the tongue is a small member and a major organ. "The tongue is valuable," she said. "without the tongue, no mother could sing to her baby, no teacher could teach and no attorney could speak. The tongue helps us enjoy flavors."
But on the flip side, the tongue can be sharp, full of fire and deadly poison.
"We should make an honest effort to control the tongue," Houston advised.
Billy Allen announced that Jack Cook would facilitate discussions on poverty in Lauderdale County. The discussions will be held on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. The discussions will last five weeks.
It was announced that West Lauderdale School would sponsor the program “Welcome to the Real World.” Club members were asked to volunteer to help with the program.
Vistan Allen said that money was being sent to Baptist Children’s Village.
The meeting adjourned and members and the guest speaker enjoyed refreshments and a time of fellowship.
Hostesses for the month were June Gibson, Judy Harwell, Marjorie Nabors and Vistan Allen.
The next meeting will be March 15.
