MERIDIAN — The West Lauderdale Competition Cheer and Dace teams were named state champions in four areas of competition at the 2009 Mississippi High School Athletic Association State Cheer/Dance Competition.
In the dance portion of competition, the team was named State Champion in 4-A Jazz and Pom divisions. They were also named Overall State Champion in 4-A Dance. In addition, in the cheer portion of competition, the team was named State Champions in the 4-A Large Division. For the second consecutive year, West Lauderdale High School was the only school in the state to win overall state championships in both cheer and dance.

Debutantes presented at December event
The Southern Debutante Assembly held its 2011 Presentation and White and Gold Ball on the evening of Dec. 29 at Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood. Fourteen debutantes were presented to society at the event, which marked the assembly’s 50th anniversary.
