Thanks for your support

At a time with so much negatism in our society some things just shine through. On Tuesday Nov 10 at the Knights of Columbus hall on Hwy 19 N. a group of young and not so young men gathered to pay tribute to our American Flag. We were graced with several women on this windy, not so comfortable night. The purpose of this gathering was to retire almost 400 American Flags. These symbols of our great country were tattered and torn. You retire pieces of cloth that are worn and torn by burning them. Not with hate and malice, but with respect and feelings that border on love for our great nation. The young men were represented by Boy Scout Troop Seven. The older men and women were represented by members of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 1251. I request that the Meridian Star print this letter so I can thank all the businesses and our local VFW for allowing us to do this service. I would be remiss if I did not thank all the Bingo customers of the Knights that bring their old flags to our location on Wednesday nights. We have been providing this service for the last 10 years. It teaches respect for our flag and country to the young men that participate. We are truly ”One Nation Under God”. Thanks to WTOK for covering this event.
