MERIDIAN — In March of 1991, Harold Hayes brutally murdered, here in Meridian, my Mother-In-Law, Vivian Powell, who was 83 at the time and barely weighed 100lbs. He beat her with an iron pipe, and then took the liberty of picking up whatever he desired as she lay dying on the floor. She had offered this young man assistance when his truck broke down on a nearby road, and he repaid her by taking her life.
Marl Cobler, who was the Lauderdale County Coroner at the time, made the comment that this was the most gruesome crime scene he had ever worked during his service.
Harold Hayes has an upcoming parole eligibility hearing soon, and we are asking the public to write to the Parole Board to voice your opinion about denying this man parole. By his actions, he has demonstrated that he has no respect for human life. Please take the time to send Harold Hayes, and the Parole Board your message that people in the Meridian area do not want this man released. Thank you.
