East Mississippi Retired Educators

The May 2 meeting of the East Mississippi Retired Educators was a luncheon at Northwood Country Club.

After the meal, the group was entertained by a musical program presented by Tommy Duncan.

A graduate of Meridian High School, Duncan is retired after many years' employment at the Meridian Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He said that he had grown up on gospel music, and sang the hymn "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," which he first sang as a third-grader in a school talent show. Duncan discussed the musical heritage of Mississippi and mentioned many of the famous musicians who have called Mississippi home. He sang several songs made famous by Mississippians, including, of course, one of Elvis Presley's hits.

The next meeting of the association will be on Sept. 5, at the Meridian Activity Center. Dr. John Temple, pastor of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, will present the program. All retired educators are invited.
