The Baptist Children's Village has been in the ministry of children since 1897. The Children's village is a residential child-care agency for kids who have been abused or neglected.
"We also have families that come to us and ask for help," says Crystelle Thames for the Baptist Children's Village. "It can be a severe poverty situation, or an illness that causes them to be unable to care for a child. Anything that might prevent a child from being able to live at home."
There are several locations in Mississippi, but soon there will be a location very close to home. Construction has begun on a new building located in Winston County near Nanih Waiya.
"We currently have six campuses in Mississippi, and the Lord gave us this new spot in Winston, because this is where we needed to be. We learned sometime back that the department of human services who have children in their care will be required to only place them within 50 miles of their home. We want DHS to be able to continue referring children to us. So, we looked at where all our campuses are, and tried to find a location where we would be most accessible. We saw we had a void in the eastern part of the state where we would be outside that 50 mile radius," Thames said.
This is the primary reason the group set their sights on Winston County.
"It helps us work with nine or 10 counties being here," Thames explained.
The Baptist Children's Village deals with specific areas of need. Some of these are spiritual needs, academic needs, and emotional needs.
Construction begins this month, and the location should be up and running by summer or early fall.

We apologize
I had a conversation with a friend the other day. They recounted an experience they had where a driver cut them off, then gave them "hand signals."
