Lt. Col. and Mrs. Robert David Scales of Meridian announce the engagement of their daughter, Suzanne Elizabeth, to Robert Nelson Rutherford, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Nelson Rutherford of Tupelo.
The couple will exchange vows on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter the Apostle in Jackson.
Miss Scales is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. James Webb Scales of Starkville, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Herman Scruggs of Tupelo.
The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of Millsaps College, where she received a bachelor of science degree in psychology with excellence. She also completed graduate studies at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in communication disorders and speech science. She is a 2001 graduate of West Lauderdale High School.
While attending Millsaps College, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and served as president of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national academic and leadership honor society.
Miss Scales is a program associate with the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service and the Mississippi Case Management Consortium in Jackson.
Mr. Rutherford is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Henry Gunner of Tupelo and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Jasper Rutherford of Guntown.
The bridegroom-elect is a 2009 cum laude graduate of the University Of Mississippi School of Law and a 2006 graduate of Millsaps College, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in history with excellence. He is a 2002 graduate of Tupelo High School.
While attending Millsaps, he was a member and treasurer of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, president of the Catholic Student Association, and received the Ross H. Moore Award for Outstanding Achievement in History. At Ole Miss, Mr. Rutherford was a member of the Law School Student Body Association and the Federalist Society.
After the ceremony, a reception will be held at the University Club of Jackson.
