Teresa Cross of Meridian and Kennith King of Shuqualak announce the engagement of their daughter, Tamela King, to Joshua Powe, son of Wilfred and Maggie Powe of Buckatunna.
The wedding is set for Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at 4 p.m. St. James A.M.E. Church
Miss King is the granddaughter of Mary Dean Gandy of Louisville and Jimmy and Inell King of Shuqualak.
The bride-elect received a bachelor of social work degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a graduate of Meridian High School.
While attending USM, she was a member of the Social Work Club and the Afro-American Student Organization.
Miss King is employed by Dillard's.
Mr. Powe is the grandson of Willie Fred and Eluma Powe of Buckatunna and the late George Edward Shaw and Ellen Mayfield Shaw of Waynesboro.
The bridegroom-elect received a degree in forestry from Jones Junior College. He is a graduate of Wayne County High School.
While attending Jones, he was a member of the Forestry Club.
Mr. Powe is employed by South Mississippi Electric Power Association.
A reception will be held at The Frank Cochran Center.
Family and Friends are invited to attend.
