FYI
• June 13-20 – Design Discovery Camp will be presented by the School of Architecture, a part of Mississippi State University's College of Architecture, Art and Design. The camp was created specifically for high school students age 16 and older or incoming freshmen with an interest in architecture or other related design fields.
June 1 is the registration deadline; applications are accepted on a first-come basis. The total camp cost of $550 includes a $100 non-refundable application processing fee.
The camp coincides with two of MSU's summer orientation sessions, June 12 and 13 and 20 and 21. Since they may enroll during orientation, incoming freshmen majoring in architecture strongly are encouraged to attend both the camp and one of the two orientations.
Camp activities are designed to simulate the levels of information processing and individual skill and intensity required of enrolled students in Mississippi's only academic curriculum in architecture. Consistently, the campus residential experience has helped many make an informed career decision about the major or similar disciplines.
Through support of Johnson-McAdams P.A., a Greenwood architectural firm, a limited number of scholarships is available to high school students who either reside in Leflore County or are members of a minority under-represented in higher education. Scholarship application forms also are available through the college office.
Design Discovery sign-in takes place 3-5 p.m. June 13 on the second floor of Giles Hall, home of the school and college.
For more information, contact Phyllis Davis at telephone 662-325-2202 or e-mail desdisco@caad.msstate.edu. The mailing address is: Design Discovery, School of Architecture, P.O. Box AQ, Mississippi State, MS 39762-8872.

Watching students succeed highlight of Dr. Phil Sutphin’s tenure at ECCC
Of all the accomplishments during Dr. Phil A. Sutphin’s 12-year tenure as East Central Community College’s seventh president, his fondest memory is a simple one: watching students graduate.
“Whether it is a commencement in May, a GED graduation ceremony or a healthcare pinning, the joy and sense of accomplishment is evident on all faces – students, families and faculty,” Sutphin said. “After all, is that not the college’s mission?”
Sutphin, who announced his retirement plans at the November 2011 meeting of the college’s Board of Trustees, will have completed 42 years in education when he officially steps down on June 30. - Excellence in Education
