Here’s a look at upcoming events at city and county public schools, as well as parochial, faith-based and private schools:



• Today – College Fair, from 10 a.m.-11:15 a.m., Lamar School Cafetorium.

Representatives from colleges throughout the region will be present to answer questions and provide various forms for the college admission process. Parents and anyone interested in learning about the different colleges are welcome to attend.

Feb. 2 – Poplar Springs Elementary School will host a Spring Open House for prospective students and their families at 5:30 pm in the auditorium. This is an opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers as well as ask questions about the school.

• Feb. 9 – The third grade students at Poplar Springs Elementary School will present “Happy 150th Birthday Meridian” including the play, “Meridian:The City that Would Not Die” by Anne McKee at 10:30 am in the auditorium. Through music, drama and dance students will celebrate the history of Meridian.

• Today-April 14 – Continuing Education Class: Hair Braiding Certification class, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays.

• Jan. 25-May 10 – Continuing Education Class: Principles of Air Conditioning I – Part II, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., Reed Hall. Class meets on Mondays.

• Jan. 26-May 11 – Continuing Education Class: Principles of Air Conditioning II – Part II, 6 p.m., Reed Hall Room 100. Class meets on Tuesdays. Call 601-482-7445.

• Jan. 26-March 23 – Continuing Education Cass: QuickBooks, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

• Jan. 27 – Continuing Education Class: Introduction to Computers, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Webb Hall.

• Jan. 29 – Continuing Education Class: Crowns and Gowns: Preparing for a Pageant or Beauty Review, 5:30 p.m., Webb Hall.

• Jan. 30 – Continuing Education Class: ACT Review, 8:30 a.m., Webb Hall.



The workshops, which are designed to assist students prior to taking the college entrance exam, are scheduled Feb. 2 and March 30 in Newton Hall, Room 60. Registration deadlines to reserve seating for each workshop are scheduled Jan. 29, and March 26.

Cost to attend each workshop is $10 and should be sent to ECCC Career-Technical Education, P. O. Box 129, Decatur, MS 39327.

Exams are scheduled April 10 and June 12,. Respective deadlines to register for each test are: March 5 and May 7.

The ACT will also be administered in Newton Hall, beginning at 8 a.m.
