    High school seniors with an ACT score of 21 or higher can avoid the crowds at registration at East Mississippi Community College. EMCC will conduct early Honors Orientation and Registration sessions March 26, at 10 a.m. at its Golden Triangle and Scooba campuses for these students.

     At Honors Orientation and Registration, qualified seniors can finalize admissions, scholarships and register for fall and/or summer classes.

     Before arriving, prospective students must visit www.eastms.edu and apply for admission by clicking on the “Apply Now” button near the top of the home page. On the day of Honors Orientation and Registration, students should bring unofficial copies of their high school transcripts in a sealed envelope and copies of their ACT scores, all of which are available from their high school counselors.

     • Thursday – Arts & Letters Series production, Church Basement Ladies, 7 p.m., McCain Theater, Ivy Hall. FMI: Leia Hill, (601) 484-8696.

     • Friday – Junior High School Math Competition, 8 a.m., Banquet Room, Montgomery Hall. FMI: William Davidson, (601) 484-8667.

     • March 15-21 – College closed for spring break. Classes resume March 22.

 

     Here's a look at upcoming events at East Central Community College:

   

    • Thursday – Spring Band Concert, 7 p.m., Huff Auditorium. Featuring performances by the concert and jazz bands and the percussion ensemble. Selections will include a “Pirates of the Caribbean” symphonic suite by the concert band, and the percussion ensemble will entertain with its “high energy rhythmic performance” and will even send listeners “back to school” during a special presentation.

     The jazz band will perform the classic jazz chart, "In the Mood," in addition to a K.C. and Sunshine Band tribute.

    • Beginning March 22 – Cake decorating class, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., in the Gold Room of Mabry Memorial Cafeteria. The class will be held six Monday nights, with the final class held April 26.

    Cost of the class is $50. Participants will also need to purchase a cake decorating kit.

     Joy Munn of Decatur will serve as instructor.

     • DECATUR – A workshop for the American College Test (ACT) will be held March 30 at 8 a.m. in Newton Hall, Room 60, at East Central Community College. The workshop is designed to assist students prior to taking the college entrance exam. The registration deadline to reserve seating is March 26.

    Cost to attend the workshop is $10 and should be sent to ECCC Career-Technical Education, P. O. Box 129, Decatur, MS 39327.

     The exam is scheduled June 12; the deadline to register for is May 7. To register, go to the organization’s Web site, www.actstudent.org.
