MERIDIAN —
Fifteen Meridian area teachers were among honorees at the Fourth Annual Excellence in Education Awards Banquet at Mississippi State University, Meridian. The educators were recognized for their accomplishments in the public schools.
The program is conducted by the Meridian Area chapter of Phi Delta Kappa( PDK), a professional education organization.
The teachers were nominated by administrators, teachers and/or the public. They then submitted resumes and statements about teaching that were evaluated by a panel of university and public school personnel. The 15 winners were selected from nominations received from throughout East Mississippi school districts.
Each of the teachers demonstrates the academic excellence opportunities available in their schools. Teachers recognized were:

• Danielle McAllister, West Lauderdale Middle School
• Robin McClellan, Philadelphia Elementary School
• Liz Michael, Meridian High School
• Sandy Reid, West Lauderdale High School
• Leigh Ann Smith, Clarkdale High School
• Carol Ridings, Quitman Lower Elementary School
• Jessica Tullos, Enterprise High School
• Mary Wilson, Magnolia Middle School
• Phi Delta Kappa promotes quality education, in particular publically supported education, as essential to the development and maintenance of a democratic way of life.
