Excellence in Education

MERIDIAN —     • Maddie Constant of Houma Louisiana and Charlotte Ann Allard of Flora Mississippi have been selected to receive the William D. Mobley Dental Hygiene Scholarships at Meridian Community College. 

    These $2,000 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from a memorial endowment established by the Rev. Forrest C. Mobley of Destin, Fla. Mobley’s father, Dr. William D. Mobley, practiced dentistry in Meridian in the '30s and '40s.

     Constant, a 2008 honors graduate of Vandebilt Catholic High School in Houma, is also a 2010 President’s List scholar graduate of Northwest Florida State College. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students and a member of the College Activities Board at MCC.  After graduation, she plans to move back to Louisiana and start her career as a dental hygienist.

     Allard, a 2007 honors graduate of Tri-County Academy,  is a Dean’s List scholar and a member of Health Occupation Students of America. She plans to seek employment in the dental hygiene field and also pursue a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. 

    • LIVINGSTON, Ala.—Enterprise High School graduate Hunter Smith was recently awarded a $6,000 Trustees Scholarship to attend the University of West Alabama.

    This award, which is based on academic achievement and proven leadership potential, comes from the UWA Office of Admissions.

    Smith plans to major in accounting and business management.
