MERIDIAN —     • Tonda Elaine Burks has been selected to receive the Alexander Ott Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $1500 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by employees of The Crossings.

     Burks is a 1987 graduate of Meridian High School.  A Dean’s List scholar, she graduated from MCC’s LPN program in 2009. She works at The Crossings as a licensed practical nurse and is a sophomore in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Burks desires to continue to advance in the medical field either as a nurse manager or work in the emergency room.

    • Nathan Michael Patrick of Enterprise has been selected to receive the Clifton “Buddy” Davis Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $1,000 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by the Davis Family. Davis, an insurance agent for more than 30 years, was a member of the Mississippi Insurance Commission. An avid golfer, he served as president of both Quitman Country Club and Northwood Country Club.

     Patrick, a 2012 graduate of Enterprise High School, is taking prerequisite classes to be eligible to enter into the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Following his completion at MCC, Patrick plans to enter the workforce as a registered nurse.

    • Casey Elizabeth Lewis and Gabrielle Kelly have been selected to receive the Ann and Ken Joyner Book Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    These $500 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation. This scholarship fund was established by Lynne Anderson and Rick Joyner, children of Ann and Ken Joyner.

     Lewis, a 2010 salutatorian graduate of Philadelphia High School, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. She is in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at MCC and is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses. Lewis plans to continue her education and receive her bachelor’s in nursing with an ultimate goal to obtain her masters while focusing on the Nurse Practitioner Certification.

     Kelly, a 2010 honors graduate of West Lauderdale High School, is a member of the Health Occupation Students of America and vice president of MCC’s Gospel Choir. A sophomore in the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at MCC, she plans to enter the workforce upon graduation.
