Here's a look at upcoming events at local and area public, private and faith-based schools:
• Aug. 2 – Open House, middle schools – Scheduled from 3 p.m.-6 p.m., an opportunity to meet the teacher, pick up class and/or bus schedules and registration packets.
• Aug. 5 – Open House, elementary schools – Scheduled from 2 p.m.-5 p.m., an opportunity to meet the teacher, pick up class and/or bus schedules and registration packets.
• Aug. 5 – Open House, Meridian High School – Times and locations: from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Ninth and 10th grades, R.D. Harris building; 11th and 12th grades, library of the main building. All student schedules can be picked up at this time.
Here's a look at upcoming events at Meridian Community College:
• July 31 – GED graduation, 7 p.m., Ivy Theater. For more information: JenniferWhitlock, (601) 484-8798.
Here's a look at upcoming events at East Central Community College, Decatur:
• Aug. 3 – East Central Community College will offer four summer orientation/registration dates for new and transfer students planning to attend fall 2012 classes. Sessions will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Eddie M. Smith Student Union building on the west side of campus. Fall classes begin Aug. 16.
Prior to attending registration, students should have on file in the Office of Admissions a completed ECCC Application for Admission (located on the college Web site); ACT or COMPASS scores, which will be used for placement in English and mathematics courses; and high school/college transcripts. Students should also have applied for housing if they choose to live on campus and for financial aid.
Students who have completed the admissions process and have been accepted for admissions should receive a letter in the mail instructing them on how to proceed on the day of orientation. Students who have not completed the application process may also attend and will begin the process.
On the day of registration/orientation, students will complete their fall class schedules, have photos made for identification badges and the College yearbook, apply for a parking decal (must have tag number), and complete the online orientation.
Students who have not taken either the ACT or COMPASS test should be prepared to take it at 8:30 a.m. on the day of registration.
A complimentary meal will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Mabry Memorial Cafeteria for students and parents.
