Rush Foundation Hospital has announced that 12 of their Critical Care Nurses have recently received their CCRN Certification. This important certification is for nurses that work at the bedside of acutely or critically ill patients and promotes continuing excellence in the critical care nursing profession. In addition to providing nurses with a sense of professional pride and achievement, obtaining certification reinforces the special knowledge and experience required for critical care nursing.
Nurses who receive this certification must complete 1,750 hours of direct bedside care of acutely or critically ill patients within the previous two years, with 875 hours in the most recent year preceding application. Then, they must successfully pass a three-hour test consisting of 150 questions.
“We are very proud of these nurses that have taken the initiative to achieve this prestigious certification. Rush supports these efforts by providing monthly education, by providing mentoring, and by creating a culture where evidence-based practice and critical-thinking is the rule, not the exception," said David Bonner, director of nursing for Rush Foundation Hospital.
