MERIDIAN — THIBODAUX, La. – The entire region is invited to the second annual Louisiana Swamp Stomp Festival – a musical celebration of south Louisiana culture slated for Friday, March 12, through Sunday, March 14, at Nicholls State University.
Festival gates will open to the public at 3 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the parking lot adjacent to John L. Guidry Stadium. Admission is $10 per day or $25 for the weekend – and free for children 11 and under. Tickets will be available at the gate. The festival will kick off again on Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. with the same daily admission charge.

“Our inaugural festival in 2009 was a huge success, and we anticipate even better things this year,” said Brenda Haskins, festival committee co-chair and director of auxiliary services at Nicholls. “Swamp Stomp is a great entertainment venue for anyone who loves Cajun and Zydeco music, local foods, locally made art and crafts, and south Louisiana culture.”
Musical talents scheduled to perform include the Lost Bayou Ramblers; Don Rich; Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band; Treater; Foret Tradition; Lil’ Nathan and the Bigtimers; Roland Cheramie and Friends; T’Canaille; Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys; Waylon Thibodeaux: Louisiana Rockin’ Fiddler; Creole Zydeco Farmers; Magnolia Sisters Cajun Band; and Geno Delafose and the French Rockin’ Boogie.
Festival attendees can also enjoy the cultural offerings of the Bayou French Tent, an exhibit promoting the bounties of bayou life and the French language that is still spoken in south Louisiana. The tent is separate from the Swamp Stomp Festival and free to the public.
Current Swamp Stomp sponsors include the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation Community Partnership; Houma Regional Arts Council – Louisiana Decentralized Arts Funding Program; Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program; 12th Annual Jubilee: A Festival of the Arts & Humanities at Nicholls; Whitney National Bank; PRO-NSU; Mr. Al Danos; Dr. Wayne Pharo; Thibodaux Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic; Mr. Charles Caillouet; BLD Services, LLC; Kelps & Will Prop Shop, LLC; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Pitre; Ms. Anke Tonn; Coastal Commerce Bank; and several others.
