MERIDIAN —
Susie McEachin Johnson has been hired by the Meridian Little Theatre to direct and coordinate its Youth Division programs. Johnson will join producer/director Jimmy Pigford on the theatre’s artistic staff.
Johnson, who has been volunteering with MLT’s youth division for four years, stated her immediate goals were to develop the division’s educational outreach and increase opportunities for teens in the newly-developed Stage 2 program. Stage 2 is an advanced theatre program that includes the technical and backstage aspects of theatrical productions, in addition to onstage training.
In January, under Johnson's leadership, the MLT Youth Division had one of its most successful productions with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” With a cast of more than 130 and 24 shows, the musical was enjoyed by more than 9,000 area students. Next year's production will be co-sponsored by Marty and Linda Davidson.
