St. Paul's Chamber Music Series at St. Paul's Episcopal Church will feature Diane Boyd Schultz and Kevin T. Chance in concert Thursday, Feb. 4.
The concert is free and begins at 12:05 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1116 23rd Ave..
Diane Boyd Schultz
Flutist and piccoloist Diane Boyd Schultz has established her career through solo and chamber performances in the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Romania, and Austria.
Currently she is Principal Flutist of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, Flutist/Piccoloist of the Capstone Wind Quintet, and a frequent performer with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.
She has also performed as flutist and piccoloist of the Dallas Bach Society, Terre Haute, and Shreveport, Symphony Orchestras.
A prizewinner of several national and international competitions, including the Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition and the National Federation of Music Clubs Orchestral Winds Competition, her festival appearances include Interlochen and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camps, the British Flute Society, National Flute Association, Mid-South Flute Festival, Florida Flute Association, Louisiana Flute Society, and the Flute Society of St. Louis. Performances have been broadcast on Red River Radio and Blue Lake Public Radio, and she also recorded for the Emmy award-winning documentary Weathered Secrets and for incidental music to the play Death of A Salesman.
Kevin T. Chance
Pianist Kevin T. Chance has been hailed as “a superlative musician” playing “with musical conviction and muscularity.”
He has performed throughout the United States and abroad as both soloist and collaborator, including concerto appearances with the Magic City Orchestra and the Brevard Music Center. In 2003, he was invited to perform on both of the Lake District Summer Music Festival’s gala performances. Recent engagements include Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the Athens, Ga., Chorale, as well as the Baton Rouge Symphony, a recital at the Des Moines, Iowa, Symphony Academy, and concerts for the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, the University of Texas at Brownsville, and Birmingham-Southern College. He has been a prizewinner of several regional and national competitions including the National Society of Arts and Letters Career Awards Competition, Music Teachers National Association Competitions, and the Brevard Music Center Concerto Competition.
Recently appointed to the faculty of the University of Alabama, Mr. Chance is a former faculty member at the Alabama School of Fine Arts and is currently completing the doctorate at the Eastman School of Music. An alumnus of the Aspen Music Festival, he holds the Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University and graduated magna cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College.
