NEWTON — A Newton High School student shot himself in one of the school classrooms this afternoon, according to Newton County officials. Offiicals say the student, a white male, was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Officials say the student pulled out a gun during a biology class. The teacher evacuated the classroom and the school was placed on lockdown. A short time later, a gunshot was heard, the officials say. No other students were injured.
