Sources: East Central to hire Ken Karcher as head football coach

MERIDIAN —       The search for the next head football coach at East Central Community College has come to a close, as sources confirmed to The Meridian Star Thursday, the college is set to announce former Eastern Michigan offensive coordinator Ken Karcher as head coach during a 2:30 p.m. press conference on Friday.

Karcher took the job as offensive coordinator at Eastern Michigan in January of 2009. During his four seasons at EMU, Karcher helped coach the Eagles to a 10-38 record.

Karcher was also the head coach at Liberty University in Virginia from 2000 until 2005, where he led the Flames to 21-46 record, including two second-place finishes in the Big South Conference. He served as the quarterbacks coach at Toledo in 2008, helping to lead the Rockets to a 13-10 upset of Michigan in 2008.

On Jan. 15, Karcher took the head coaching job at King's Academy in Knoxville, Tenn. However, Karcher announced in a press release Wednesday, he would not coach the team for the upcoming season.

"It is with deep regret that our family will not be joining The King's Academy family," Karcher said in the release to the Knoxville News Sentinel . "We appreciate everything that the school did to accommodate our family. After much prayer and consideration we decided that our current family dynamics require us to pursue other opportunities."

Karcher will replace Brian Anderson as head coach and will look to help the Warriors improve from a 3-6 finish last season.
