MERIDIAN — A man Lauderdale County and Meridian authorities had been searching for in connection with thefts in the county was captured Wednesday evening by patrol officers of the Meridian Police Department. Lennie M. Swanner, 30, of Zero Road, was being sought in connection with the theft of a trailer from a home in the 5800 block of Highway 145 North about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Wednesday evening, an alert citizen contacted Central Dispatch to say Swanner was thought to have been in the Meridian Crossroads area of South Frontage Road. MPD units began patrolling the area and came across Swanner at Ryan's Restaurant at 5:45 p.m.. Swanner tried to flee on foot but MPD officers caught up with him at Red Lobster on the frontage road. Swanner had to be subdued by officers while resisting arrest and was taken into custody. Officers said a knife, drugs and paraphernalia were found on Swanner at the time of his arrest. He will be formally charged later today with various offenses, authorities said.
