MERIDIAN — Investigators with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department are investigating a shooting incident that occurred this morning in which one person died. LCSD Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun said the person who was shot died late this morning during emergency surgery at a Meridian hospital. The person was shot once, according to Calhoun, after an altercation reportedly happened around 10:15 a.m. at a home in the 10,200 block of Woods Road in the Suqualena community. Calhoun said the homeowner had called 911 Emergency Dispatch earlier and informed them a person who had made threatening communications with him was on his way to the home. A deputy was dispatched to the location and heard a single gunshot as he arrived on the scene. Calhoun said the homeowner and the shooting victim did know each other. Calhoun said the investigation is ongoing.
