MERIDIAN —     Officers with the Meridian Police Department were busy Saturday responding to separate calls of a nonfatal shooting, an armed robbery and a kidnapping attempt.

    Shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to a call of an attempted kidnapping in the 1500 block of 22nd Avenue Heights.

    A 14-year-old girl told police a white male approached her and grabbed her, but she was able to escape his grip and ran away, according to a press release.

    When another car drove by, the man left in an older Ford pickup truck that was black, with stickers of an American flag and an eagle on the back window, according to the press release. The girl was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

    The man was described as tall and skinny, with semi-curly hair, a goatee and blue eyes. He appeared to be in his mid 20s. He may have a tattoo of a cross on his left arm. He was wearing a black shirt and bluejeans that had a hole in one knee.

    At about 9: 30 a.m., police were called to a convenience store in the 500 block of Highway 19 North to a report of an armed robbery.

    A 79-year-old woman told police a young black male approached her, brandished a handgun and took her purse before fleeing on foot, a press release states.

    The man was described as short and dark complexioned. He appeared to be 15 to 20 years of age, the press release states.

    At about 11 a.m., police responded to the 5200 block of 5th Street where they found a 17-year-old boy shot once in the upper leg, a press release states.

    The teenager told police that shots were fired from a small white car that passed by. The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

    No suspects had been reported in any of the crimes as of Saturday evening.
