PHOTO BY BRIAN LIVINGSTON / THE MERIDIAN STAR Members of the Society of St. Andrews, along with volunteers, were busy Tuesday afternoon putting more than 52,000 pounds of sweet potatoes into bags to be given to the needy. The Society collects surplus produce from across the state to give to those in need during their "Gleaning America's Fields, Feeding America's Hungry" campaign. These sweet potatoes came from fields in and around Vardaman. There are approximately 200,000 individual servings in this pile that was more than five feet high.
