Shooting death update

MERIDIAN —  A man was shot and killed last night in Meridian. Meridian Police Department Chief James Reed said the shooting victim was taken to a Meridian hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. Clayton Cobler, Lauderdale County Coroner, later confirmed the victim died at 6:33 p.m. of his wounds. Officials said the man was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the head. Reed said officers were called to the 1800 block of 25th Avenue at about 5:55 p.m. to a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found the victim suffering from gunshots wounds. He was transported in serious condition and later died. Reed said witnesses were being interviewed by detectives. Reed said detectives have a possible suspect and vehicle as a result of the preliminary investigation. The name of the victim is being withheld until all relatives can be notified.
